BEAUMONT, Texas -
The Lamar Cardinal football team wrapped up its final scrimmage of preseason camp Saturday morning with a 40-play scrimmage at Provost Umphrey Stadium. The scrimmage closes out preseason camp as head coach Ray Woodard and the Cardinals transition into the game week preparations for the 2013 season opener against Oklahoma Panhandle State.
"I was happy with what we did today," said Woodard. "We are now in game week preparation, and we will focus on scouting the opponent. The offense and defense will be split up focusing on their assignments on the other side of the ball."
Ryan Mossakowski had the most consistent outing of all the LU quarterbacks. He completed 4-of-6 passes, including one that went for a score after a nice catch by Barry Ford. Starting quarterback Caleb Berry also completed one touchdown pass in the far corner of the end zone by Houston senior Jordan Edwards.
Freshman Kade Harrington led the Lamar ground attack with four carries for 22 yards and a touchdown. Harrington's score came toward the end of the scrimmage and went for 12 yards.
The other big highlight came from 2012 conference newcomer of the year, Kevin Johnson, on special teams. The Houston native returned a kickoff down the right sideline for a score.
The Cardinals kick off the 2013 season Saturday, Aug. 31, against OPSU. The game against the Aggies is slated to begin at 7 p.m. from Provost Umphrey Stadium.
