BEAUMONT, Texas -
Senior quarterback Caleb Berry
became Lamar's all-time leader in touchdown passes with his third scoring strike in Saturday's win over Grambling State. For his success on the field Berry has been named Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week by CollegeSportsMadness.com.
Berry completed 27-of-45 passes for 389 yards and five touchdowns in the season-opening victory over the Tigers, but it was his third TD of the night that placed him a top the school's record book - a five-yard pass to transfer Devonn Brown.
Last season, Berry posted the best single-season performance in program history setting new marks for completions, passing yards, touchdown passes and yards of total offense. He enters his final season on pace to become the school's all-time leader in all four categories.
Harrington connected with seven different receivers in the victorious performance, and four different players hauled in a touchdown pass.
Berry will guide the Cardinals against one of the toughest challenges in program history. The Cards will be in College Station, Texas Saturday to take on nationally ranked Texas A&M. The game is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be televised on the SEC Network.
