The Lamar University athletics department will hold a press conference at 4:15 p.m. today to make a major announcement in relation to football. The event will be held in the pavilion adjacent to the football practice field, which is just off the south parking lot of Provost Umphrey Stadium.

Following the ceremony, all in attendance are invited to stay as football coach Ray Woodard will direct his team through its first live intrasquad scrimmage of 2009. It is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. Woodard and his staff are working with a squad of 64 (34 scholarship players and 30 walkons) in preparation for the Cardinals' return to the gridiron - after a 20-season layoff - in the fall of 2010.
