BEAUMONT, Texas -
Senior punter Kollin Kahler has been named 2013 CoSIDA Academic All-District announced CoSIDA Thursday afternoon. It marks the second-straight season that Kahler has received the honor.
The school's all-time career punt average leader, Kahler has been the true definition of a student-athlete over the course of his career receiving accolades both on the field and in the classroom. A 2011 honorable mention All-Southland Conference selection, Kahler became the first Cardinal to receive preseason first-team All-Southland Conference honors since the return of football to Lamar. Currently among the league leaders averaging nearly 41 yards per punt, Kahler is making a push for more postseason honors following this season.
Last month, Kahler was a recipient of the prestigious David J. Beck Fellowship. Awarded to only two Lamar students each year, the fellowship rewards outstanding academic achievement and allows top students to further challenge themselves with unique opportunities for undergraduate research and creative study. Kahler will use the fellowship to study the advances of joint replacement surgery in Dublin, Ireland over the summer.
A 2012 Academic All-SLC selection, Kahler was named an FCS ADA Academic All-Star last season. He was named a semifinalist for the 2013 Campbell Trophy, which is considered the academic Heisman.
