GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The Lamar men's golf team made a solid statement on the final day of the SunTrust Gator Invitational Sunday as they rose four spots to finish fourth at the Mark Bostick Golf Course.
LU's final round 281 (1-over-par) pushed its team score to 870 for the event, placing it ahead of seven schools ranked ahead of them in the current Golfweek/Sagarin Ratings Performance Index. No. 4 Florida won the event with an 841, well ahead of No. 16 Florida State at 859 and No. 40 Chattanooga at 869 - just a shot ahead of the Cardinals.
Pierre-Alexis Rolland led the LU squad with a final round 68 to finish tied for seventh with a 214 total. It was his highest tournament finish since tying for seventh at the Gopher Invitational in the first event of the fall season. His 2-under-par round on Sunday was tied for the seconds lowest among the 75-player field.
It marked the third sub-70 round this season for the freshman.
Sophomore Xavier Feyaerts posted his second 71 of the weekend to finish tied for 23rd at 219, while senior Hugues Joannes carded an even-par round of 70 for a 219 total.
Sophomore Kevin Hesbois responded well from his opening round 81 to sign for a pair of 72s to conclude the event tied for 51st at 225.
Sophomore MJ Daffue recorded a 79 to wrap-up play with a 230 score and a tie for 63rd.
Lamar will return to play on March 5-6 when the squad competes in the Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas.
