HOUSTON, Texas -
Sophomore Louis Bemberg fired a three-under 69 in second round of the Bayou City Collegiate Championships Saturday evening in Houston to spark a Lamar rally. The Cardinals shot a 295 in the second round to climb two places on the team leaderboard at the Golf Club of Houston's par-72 course. Lamar is currently tied 13th after recording a 298-295 - 593 with one round remaining.
"Louis came out and played really well today," said head coach Brian White. "But we struggled to get any of our other guys close to him by the end of the round. You can't win tournaments if you only have one guy playing well. These other teams are too good and will take advantage of that."
Bemberg closed out the day with a 76-69 - 145 and enters Sunday tied for 31st. He is two strokes up on Zander Gous who posted the team's second-lowest score after carding a 72-75 - 147 (+3). Gous enters the final round of play tied for 43rd.
Sophomore Gregory Wiggins improved on his opening round score by three strokes Saturday posting a 77-74. Wiggins' 151 has him tied for 69th with 18 holes remaining. Senior Stephane Dubois was unable to improve upon his opening-round 75 falling off Friday's pace by two strokes. Dubois enters Sunday tied for 74th with a 152.
Newcomer Mans Berglund closed out Lamar's round with a 75-78 - 153. He has 18 holes to try and improve upon his 76th-place standing.
The Cardinals will open the final round of play Sunday beginning at 8:30 a.m. The Cardinals will be paired with UL-Lafayette and Houston Baptist.
