The Lamar Cardinals are in a two-way tie for seventh at the General Hackler Championships after firing a 603 on the par 72 TPC of Myrtle Beach course. The Cardinals opened with a 298 and were third on the team leaderboard, but posted a 305 in the second round to finish the day tied with Louisville.
Freshman Zander Gous finished the day as the team's most consistent player. After opening with a three-over, Gous improved by a stroke to finish the day tied for 12th (75-74 - 149). Junior Gustaf Burenstam continued his strong play from the Querencia Cabo Collegiate. Burenstam finished the day with a 73-76 - 149.
Sophomore Gregory Wiggins ended the day only a stroke back of Gous and Burenstam. He fired consecutive rounds of 75 and enters Tuesday's final round tied for 18th.
Freshman Mans Berglund and senior Stephane Dubois struggled throughout the opening day of competition in South Carolina. Dubois posted a 75 in the opening round, but closed with an 82, while Berglund posted a first-round 77 and closed out the day with an 80. The Lamar duo has its work cut out as they enter the final round of 18 holes tied for 44th overall.
The third and final round of competition at the General Hackler Championship is set to begin Tuesday at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.
