LAREDO, Texas -- Lamar's second round score of 299 was just five strokes higher than its opening round 294, but the rest of the field improved enough to drop the Cardinals into a tie for seventh after the first day of the Border Olympics at the Laredo Country Club Friday.
Lamar stood alone in second as the team counted three 73s and a 75 in the morning round, but only one player improved upon his first round score and put the Cards total at 593, 14 shots back of first place Baylor at 579. Louisville is in second at 585, followed by Arkansas at 587, UT Arlington at 588 and Notre Dame and Texas State tied at 592.
Kevin Hesbois put together matching 73s to move into a tie for 12th at 146. Xavier Feyaerts posted his second under-par score in hs last three rounds with a 76-71--147 total, good for a tie for 15th.
Hugues Joannes and Justin Harding both shot one-over-par 73 to open the day, but Joannes recorded a 77 and Harding a 79 in the afternoon. Leroux Ferriera is tied for 51st with a 75-78--153 total.
The final round will begin Saturday morning.
