Lamar Tied for 8th Place Following Monday's Opening Two Rounds at Palisades Collegiate Classic

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Paced by Dawie Van Der Walt, the Lamar University men's golf team is tied for eighth place following Monday's opening two rounds at the Palisades Collegiate Classic, which is being jointly hosted by Davidson College and the University of Charlotte at Palisades Country Club (Par-72, 6,797-yards).

Van Der Walt, a junior from Cape Town, South Africa, fired a 3-under par 69 in the morning round and followed with an even-par 72 and is tied for 12th place at 3-under 141. Matthew Carvell of Southeastern Louisiana holds the 36-hole lead at 7-under 67-70--137.

Lamar is tied with North Texas for eighth place at 583. The Cardinals posted rounds of 1-over 289 and 6-over 294. Charlotte and SLU hold the 36-hole lead at 13-under 563. Tennessee-Chattanooga, Louisville and Mississippi are tied for third at 571 to round out the top five in the 18-team field.

Oliver Bekker, a sophomore from Stellenbosch, South Africa, is tied for 38th place after posting rounds of 73-74--147. Dusty Smith, a senior from The Woodlands, is also tied for 38th following rounds of 70-77--147. Justin Harding, a sophomore from Cape Town, South Africa, is tied for 53rd at 77-72--149 and Casey Clendenon, a junior from Katy, is tied for 79th at 80-76--156.

The field will play the final 18 holes Tuesday to complete the 54-hole event.
