BEAUMONT, Texas -
Coming off their most impressive outing of the season which saw Lamar rally from 11 strokes down to win a tournament, the Cardinals entered the 2014 Southland Conference Championships with some momentum. Unfortunately for the Red and White, LU was unable to tap into that momentum as they started slow Monday and could never right the ship. The Cardinals fired a 16-over 306 Wednesday to climb one spot on the team leaderboard to finish fifth.
"This was definitely not the way we wanted this week to go," said head coach Brian White. "We started slow, and just could never get it turned around. I really felt like no one got to see the real Lamar this week. We are more talented that the score would indicate.
"The person I feel the worst for is Stephane. He is our lone senior and this was his final opportunity. He has been a great leader for this program during his time in Beaumont, and I hate to see him go."
The Cardinals carded a three-round 300-304-306 - 910 on the par-72 Stonebridge Ranch Country Club course. Wednesday marked the first time all season that Lamar had not improved in at least one round of a tournament.
Dubois was the team's most consistent player all week posting a five-over par 221 (72-73-76 - 221). He finished the week tied for eighth overall.
Dubois closed out the tournament on an island as no other LU player was within eight strokes of the senior. Freshman Zander Gous carded the team's second-lowest score with a 77-74-79 - 230 to place tied 24th.
Junior Gustaf Burenstam was one stroke back of Gous with a 231 (T28th). He closed out the tournament with a four-over 76, following a 76-79 to enter the day.
Freshman Louis Bemberg and sophomore Gregory Wiggins posted a 233 to finish tied for 31st, but the duo reached that score with completely opposite rounds. Bemberg recorded the team's lowest round of the day with a three-over 75, while Wiggins shot an 80.
