Lamar Ties for Second at Irish Gridiron Golf Classic

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Led by Casey Clendenon and Hugues Joannes, the Lamar University men's golf team finished in a tie for second place following Tuesday's final round at the Irish Gridiron Golf Classic hosted by the University of Notre Dame at Warren Golf Club (Par-70, 7,023-yards).

Clendenon, a senior from Katy, shot a final round of even-par 70 and tied for 11th place with a 54-hole score of 6-over par 78-68-70--216. Joannes, a sophomore from Brussels, Belgium, closed with a final round 1-over 71 and also tied for 11th place at 6-over 72-73-71--216.

Ryan Brehm of Michigan State shot a final round 1-under 69 and claimed medalist honors with a 54-hole score of 5-under 205. Greg Carlin of Virginia, who fired a final round 3-under 67, and Doug Fortner of host Notre Dame tied for second place at even-par 210.

Michigan State ran away with the team title, posting a 54-hole total of 8-over 847. Lamar shot a final round 3-over 283, which was the second-best round of the day, and tied with Arkansas for second place at 296-282-283--861, 14 strokes behind the Spartans. Virginia placed fourth at 868 and Baylor was fifth at 870 to round out the top five in the 12-team field.

Leroux Ferriera, a junior from South Africa, closed with a final round 1-over 71 and tied for 18th place with a 54-hole score of 8-over 77-70-71--218. Justin Harding, a junior from Cape Town, South Africa, shot a final round 74 and also tied for 18th at 73-71-74--218. Russell Helson, a senior from Georgetown, fired a 1-over 71 and tied for 25th at 9-over 74-74-71--219.

Lamar continues its fall schedule Oct. 22-23 at The Club Glove Invitational hosted by Pepperdine at Saticoy Country Club.
