Lamar In Seventh After First Day of Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic

Click here for Results and Live Scoring SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Lamar men's golf team is in seventh place following the first day of play at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Golf Classic at the Warren Golf Course Monday. The Cardinals, who sit just three shots out of second place, carded rounds of 297 and 296 for a 593 score. Notre Dame leads the 15-team field with a 578 total, followed by Iowa at 590 and Ohio State at 591. Arkansas, Houston and Missouri are tied for fourth at 592, one stroke ahead of the Cards. Kevin Hesbois had the best day among the LU five, posting and even-par 70 in the morning and a 73 in the afternoon for a 143 total. He did most of his damage on the par 5s, making birdies at three of the four on the day. Hesbois' eight combined birdies are the second-most on the day. He is tied for fourth in the 84-player field, five stroke out of first, which is held by Josh Sandman of UND. James Dalthorp is nine-over for the tournament after a 74-75--149 total put him in a tie for 28th. Xavier Feyaerts improved on his first round 77 with a 73 for a 150 and is in a tie for 35th entering Tuesday's final round. Hugues Joannes and Pierre-Alexis Rolland are tied for 48th after shooting matching 153s. Lamar will be paired with San Francisco and BYU in the final round on Tuesday, beginning at 7:15 a.m. Central time.
