The Lamar men's golf team left itself with plenty of ground to make up after finishing the opening day of the David Toms Intercollegiate 11th overall with a 303-305 - 608 on the 7,663-yard, par-72 University Club Course Saturday afternoon.
The Cardinals recorded a 15-over 303 in the opening round placing ninth, but fell off of that pace by two strokes in the second round to drop two places in the standings. Freshman Charlie Flowers fired the Cardinals' lowest round of the day when he opened with a 74, while junior Gustav Burenstam finished the round just a stroke back, but Lamar struggled in the final round.
Flowers is the team leader heading into Sunday's final round with a seven-over par 151 (tied for 36th). Senior Stephane Dubois is just a stroke back of Flowers after firing a 77-75 - 152 to finish the day tied for 40th. Burenstam posted a 77 in the second round to finish the day tied with Burenstam.
Freshman Louis Bemberg finished the day tied for 46th overall with a 77-76 - 153. Junior Luke Jerling closed out the team's scorecard with a 12-over 156. He enters Sunday's round of action tied for 55th overall.
The Cardinal return to action Sunday for the final round of the David Toms Intercollegiate. The final round of action is set to tee off at 8:30 a.m.
