The Lamar Cardinal golf team saved its best for last recording its lowest round of the weekend Sunday morning, 296, to climb one spot on the team leaderboard. Lamar finished the David Toms Intercollegiate 10th overall with a 303-305-296 - 904 Sunday morning at the par-72, University Club Golf Course.
After struggling a bit in the first two rounds, freshman Louis Bemberg fired a one-under in the final round to lead Lamar. He finish tied for 30th (77-76-71 - 224). Junior Gustav Burenstam was just two strokes back of Bemberg carding a 75-77-74 - 226.
Senior Stephane Dubois posted the team's third-lowest three-round score, but could not improve on his three-over par second round score Saturday afternoon. Dubois finished tied for 40th with a 77-75-76 - 228.
Junior Luke Jerling and freshman Charlie Flowers tied for the team's fourth lowest score. Jerling recorded a three-over par 75 to finish the weekend with a 231, while Flowers took a much different route. After leading the team following the first day of competition, Flowers struggled in Sunday's final round with an eight-over par 80. The duo finished the tournament tied for 51st.
The Lamar men have one more tournament remaining during the fall schedule, but will have a month to prepare. LU returns to action Monday, Nov. 4, when they travel to Newport Beach, Calif., to compete in the Gifford Collegiate.
