SHREVEPORT, La. - Lamar golfer Kevin Hesbois carded a final round 69 on Tuesday to finish in second place and help the Cardinals move from fifth to second in the David Toms Intercollegiate from Southern Trace Country Club.

Hesbois shot par or better all three rounds on the par 72, 7,048 yard layout. The senior from Belgium opened the tournament with a 71 on Monday, and followed with a 72 later in the day. His final round 69 included five birdies, and helped him match his best finish as a collegiate golfer.

As a team, Lamar closed with a 287 for a three round total of 872 (+8). The 287 tied Mississippi State for the best round of the day. Oklahoma won the 11-team tournament with a 2-under-par 862 total. SMU (874) finished third, two strokes behind Lamar, with host LSU taking fourth (875) and Louisiana-Lafayette and Tulsa tying for fifth at 878.

Andrew Noto of Louisiana-Lafayette won individual medalist honors in the 60-player field with a three-round score of 208 (-8). Noto posted rounds of 69 and 71 on Monday, before closing with a 68 in Tuesday's final round.

LU senior M.J. Daffue had his best tournament of the fall as he tied for 10th place at 1-over-par. The 2011 Southland Conference Player of the Year has been battling a wrist injury, but came out with an impressive 68 in round one. Daffue followed with rounds of 75 and 74 for a 217 total.

Freshmen Gustaf Burenstam and Luke Jerling were solid for the Cardinals, as well. Burenstam, who opened with a 69, tied for 24th at 222 (+6) after rounds of 77 and 76. Jerling finished just one stroke behind in a tie for 28th after carding scores of 73-80-70.

Senior Xavier Feyaerts rebounded from a disappointing 82 in round two to close with a 74 and tie for 44th place. Feyaerts, who shot a 73 in the opening round, finished with a 13-over-par total of 229.

 

 

The Cardinals' golf team will be back in action next week as they tee it up at the Cabo Collegiate from Querencia Golf Club in Baja California Sur, Mexico.
