Cards place 10th in rain-shortened Royal Oaks Intercollegiate
Nov. 2, 2010 DALLAS - The final round of the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate was rained out on Tuesday, leaving the Lamar University men's golf team in 10th place at the talent-laden event. Sophomore Pierre-Alexis Rolland shot back-to-back 71s on Monday at Royal Oaks Country Club to lead the Cardinals. Rolland's pair of even par rounds on the par-71, 7,068-yard layout placed him in a tie for 21st place in the field of 72 golfers. After opening with a team total of 293 in the first round on Monday morning, Lamar responded with a 286 (+2) in the afternoon and finished at 579 (+11) through two rounds. No. 17 Iowa was awarded the team title after blistering the course with team scores of 276-275=551 (-17). Two-time defending champion Texas A&M placed second with a 556 (-12), followed by Arkansas (564). Penn State and SMU (565) tied for fourth, with Texas Tech (567), Oklahoma (570), UNLV (572), host Baylor (576), Lamar, New Mexico (582) and Long Beach State (590) rounding out the field. Iowa's Vince India won individual medalist honors after shooting a pair of 66s to finish at 10-under par. Conrad Schindler of Texas A&M was second at 8-under par, while fellow Aggie Jordan Russell finished third at 7-under. Junior Kevin Hesbois opened with a 76, but rebounded with a second round 68 and tied for 29th at two-over-par. Hesbois' 68 included four birdies and a single bogey. LU's Erik Knudson shot 70-77=147 (+5) to tie for 41st, while Xavier Feyaerts tied for 56th after carding 76-74=150 (+8). Freshman J.T. Taylor shot 80-73=153 (+11) and tied for 67th. Junior Matt Stephens, who played as an individual, finished in 69th place after rounds of 78 and 77. The Cardinals will close out their fall schedule next week at the Gifford Collegiate at CordeValle. The three-day event, which is hosted by UCLA, will begin next Monday (Nov. 8).
