PLANO - Lamar University sophomore Casey Clendenon was named Aeropostale Southland Conference Men's Golfer of the Week on Wednesday, announced the league office.
A native of Katy (Cinco Ranch HS), Clendenon won medalist honors at the Central Florida/Rio Pinar Intercollegiate with a 54-hole score of 5-under par 211. He posted rounds of 71, 71 and 69, which equaled his career-low round. He was the only golfer in the 92-player field to finish under par.
This was Clendenon's first collegiate tournament title. His best previous finish was a tie for 14th place at the 2004 UNC-Greensboro/Mid-Pines Intercollegiate.
Clendenon helped Lamar with the team title with a 54-hole total of 877. Southern Miss was second at 884, followed by Texas-Arlington (893), Louisville (894) and host UCF (898) to round out the top five in the 18-team field.
Lamar continues its spring schedule Monday and Tuesday at the Roadrunner Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Texas-San Antonio.
