MURRELLS INLET, S.C. - Fresh off the best finish of his college career, senior golfer Erik Knudsen will lead Lamar University into the 2013 General Hackler Championship from the TPC of Myrtle Beach.

Knudsen tied for sixth at the 2013 Bayou City Collegiate Championships two weeks ago at Redstone Country Club and brings a team-best 74.0 stroke average into this week's play. The 54-hole tournament, hosted by Coastal Carolina, will begin Monday morning at 7:30 a.m.

The 11-team tournament will be played over two days on the par-72, 6,950-yard layout. Joining the host Chanticleers and Lamar will be Arkansas, Charleston Southern, East Tennessee State, Florida Gulf Coast, Gardner-Webb, Kent State, Middle Tennessee, Tennessee and UTEP.

This will be the seventh straight year that Lamar has played in the General Hackler Championship. The Cardinals won the event in 2007 in their first year of participation, and placed ninth in the event last year when it was played at the DeBordieu Club.

Along with Knudsen, Luke Jerling, Stephane Dubois, Gustaf Burenstam and Greg Wiggins will be in the Cardinals' lineup. Senior Marc Dobias will be playing as an individual for the Cardinals and his scores will not count toward Lamar's team total.

Dubois is currently averaging 75.0 strokes per round, while Wiggins is posting a 75.7 scoring average, Burenstam is at 76.3 and Jerling a 77.9.

This will be one of two tournaments the Cardinals play this week. Lamar will close the week at the Border Olympics from Laredo Country Club.
