Lamar Men's Golf Headed To Austin For Ninth-Consecutive NCAA Regional

May 4, 2009

The NCAA Men's Golf Committee has announced the regional field for the 2009 Championship and the Lamar Cardinals have been placed in Austin, Texas for next week's competition.

Lamar is the No. 7 seed in Austin and is making its ninth-consecutive regional appearance and tenth overall since the regional format began in 1989. This is the first time, however, the Cards have played in their home state. Prior to this year, the closest any LU team has competed to southeast Texas was in 2001 in Stillwater, Okla., and in 2002 in Little Rock, Ark.

Tournament action will get underway Thursday, May 14, at the University of Texas Golf Club

Lamar is among a total of seven teams from Texas competing in the six regionals, with four at the Austin site. Competing in Austin is Lamar, Texas, Texas Tech and UT Arlington; in Stillwater, Okla. are Baylor and TCU; and in Daly City, Calif. is Texas A&M.

Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted to determine the 30 qualifying teams and six individuals not on those qualifying teams who will compete in the finals, held May 26-30 at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.

Thirteen teams and ten individuals not on those teams will compete at each of the three regionals while the other three regionals will have fourteen teams and five individuals not on those teams. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams will advance to the finals.

Listed below are the teams and individuals selected to participate in the championships. Teams winning automatic qualification are designated by their conferences in parentheses.
