Adams Golf Pro Tour Event In Beaumont Has A Distinct Lamar Feel

The Adams Golf Pro Tour Series is making its debut in Beaumont this week at the Beaumont Country Club and will do so with four former Lamar men's players among the field.

Casey Clendenon, Leroux Ferriera, Dusty Smith and Dawie Van Der Walt will tee-it up at their former home course beginning Wednesday. The 72-hole tournament has a $100,000 purse with a first-place payout of $15,000. Clendenon and Van Der Walt will both participate in Tuesday's Pro-Am.

Clendenon and Van Der Walt are paired with Beaumont native Anthony Broussard at 1 p.m. off No. 1, Thursday they will go off No. 10 at 8:30 a.m.

Smith, Lamar's current assistant coach, will begin Wednesday off No. 1 at 1:20 p.m. and 8:50 a.m. on Thursday from No. 10.

Ferriera tees off No. 1 at 2 p.m. on Wednesday and No. 10 at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday. He is the most recent Cardinal to complete is eligibility having played the lasttwo years for coach Brian White before graduating last weekend witha degree in general studies.

In other LU golf news, former all-America Chris Stroud will be in action at this week's Wyndham Championship, held at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. Stroud, who took last week off, currently sits 119th on the money list with $533,890 in earnings this season. The Groves, Texas native has made six of his last eight cuts.

The top 125 players at season's end will retain their tour cards for 2010. He has earned his card via the Tour's Qualifying Tournament each of the past three years.
