Sept. 15, 2013
The Lamar Cardinal golf team opens the 2013-14 season Monday in Ann Arbor, Mich., at the Wolverine Intercollegiate. The two-day tournament begins at 8 a.m. Monday morning on the U-M Golf Course, and will cover 36 holes Monday with the final 18 Tuesday. The U-M Golf Course is set up for a par 71 and 6,704 yards.
The Cardinals will be one of 11 teams competing in Ann Arbor. The rest of the field will consist of Detroit, Eastern Michigan, Michigan, Michigan State, Miami (Ohio), Oakland, Penn State, San Jose State, Toledo and Xavier.
The Cardinals are schedule to tee off beginning at 8 a.m. on the 10th tee. The last LU tee time will be at 8:36 a.m. Lamar will be paired up with tournament-host Michigan and San Jose State.
Lamar returns five letterwinners from last year's squad that finished third at the Southland Conference Championships. Led by All-SLC performers Stephane Dubois and Gregory Wiggins, the Cardinals roster is a solid mix of veteran experience, and incoming talent. Dubois is the team's lone senior, and he is surrounded by juniors Gustaf Burenstam and Luke Jerling. The sophomores are Tore Lindtveit and Gregory Wiggins. The three incoming freshmen are Louis Bemberg, Charlie Flowers and Jose Hernandez.
In addition to the Cardinals' two returning all-conference selections, LU returns three of its top four golfers from last season. Dubois led the team with a 74.5 stroke average last season, while Lindtveit was third (75.0) and Wiggins fourth (75.1).
Live scoring will be done throughout the tournament. Those wishing to follow Lamar through live scoring can do so by clicking here.
LU will have a short turnaround following the Wolverine Intercollegiate, returning to the course Sunday, Sept. 22. The Cardinals will be in Lake Forest, Ill., competing in the Windon Memorial Classic.
