Men's Tennis Picks Up First Win, Downs ORU 4-1

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The Lamar University men's picked up their first win of the 2007 season, and the first win at Lamar for head coach Aldrin Campos Saturday night, taking out Oral Roberts 4-1 in Little Rock, Ark.

The Cardinals opened the match by taking the doubles point, as Filip Kanczula and Maciej Bogusz downed Tyrone Hill and Frank Kaeler 8-3 at No. 1 doubles. The double point was won by the Cards as Tyler Cobb and Emmanuel Olivier defeated Tomek Guilliod and Clemons Geercken 8-6. David Wanja and Mario Janjic did not complete their match against Alexander Dargel and Cuan Farquharson as the point had already been decided.

With the doubles point in hand, the Cardinals picked up three wins in singles play to seal their first victory of the year. The win improves Lamar's record to 1-3 on the year.

Olivier opened the singles play with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Farquharson at No. 4, and Kanczula picked up the third point of the match with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 win over Hill at the number one spot. Lamar wrapped up the win when Janjic, playing at the two, defeated Kaeler 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.

Wanja dropped his match at No. 6 6-3, 6-4 to while Bogusz and Andres Medina's matches were not completed because the outcome of the match had already been decided before they finished.

The Cardinals will be in action again next Sunday, when they travel to Houston to take on the Rice Owls at 5 p.m.
