Lamar Drops 6-1 Decision To Arkansas-Little Rock

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Despite a straight set win by senior Dean Clower, the Lamar men's tennis team lost its fourth consecutive match last Saturday, falling to the University of Arkansas-Little Rock, 6-1, in a non-conference contest at the UALR Racquet Club.

Clower, a native of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, won his second straight singles match with a straight set win over Edson Abrao at the No. 4 spot, 7-5 and 6-3. Clower is now leads the team with a 2-2 singles record.

In doubles play, Clower joined teammate Ignacio Melus at the No. 1 position where the tandem won their third straight match. Clower and Melus made relatively short work of the UALR pairing of Abrao and Autran, taking the match by a score of 8-3. The Lamar duo is now 3-1 on the year.

The remaining Cardinals were unsuccessful in their attempts to salvage another singles victory, but senior Juan Pablo Alatorre battled a the No. 1 spot before falling in three sets to Eduardo Autran by scores of 4-6, 6-2 and 6-3.

Lamar continues non-conference play on Friday, Feb. 4 with an 11 a.m. match at Texas Tech in Lubbock. The Cardinals will also take on Bradley on Sat., Feb. 5 at 2 p.m. in a neutral site match.
