COLLEGE STATION – Nikita Lis made the most of his spring debut for the Lamar men’s tennis team, but unfortunately for the Cardinals, he was the only one to pick up a victory as 11th-ranked Texas A&M took home a 6-1 decision at George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.
Lis, a freshman out of Russia, started off strong at No. 2 singles, picking up a 6-2 opening set victory over Junior Ore before dropping the second 6-5. He took home the tiebreaker 10-8 to secure the day’s lone point for LU.
Harrison Adams and Shane Vinsant got things started early for the Aggies, earning a 6-2 doubles win over Lis and Steven McMullan at the top spot. The 20th-ranked duo of Jeremy Efferding and Jordan Szabo clinched the doubles point moments later with a 6-2 victory of their own, beating Michael Feucht and Juuso Laitinen.
Szabo and Efferding kept it going in singles, beginning with the former handing Laitinen a 6-1, 6-0 decision at No. 3 to give the Aggies a 2-0 advantage. Following a Tito Moreiras win by the same score over McMullan, Efferding, who entered the day ranked 13th nationally, locked up the win for Texas A&M with a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Feucht.
In other singles action, Max Lunkin won 5-6, 6-0, 10-8 over Carl-Philip Lindqvist and Frankie Colunga beat Mikko Rajamaki 6-3, 6-2.
LU will look to bounce back on Sunday as the Cards are set for a doubleheader vs. Alcorn State. The first match is set for 9 a.m. at Thompson Family Tennis Center, and the second will begin at 1 p.m.
