FT. WORTH – Nikita Lis picked up his second win of the weekend on Sunday, but he was the lone Cardinal scorer as the Lamar men’s tennis team fell 6-1 to San Francisco at Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center on the campus of TCU.

Lis, a freshman out of Russia, was dominating at No. 2 singles, beating Nils Skajaa 6-1, 6-2.

The three other freshmen in the lineup were not as successful, beginning with a nail-biter at the top spot as Michael Feucht fell 6-4, 3-6, 3-10 to Bernardo Saraiva. Juuso Laitinen lost 6-4, 6-0 to James Tallman at the third position, and Jeandre Hoogenboezem dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision to Thomas Takemoto at No. 5.

In other singles action, Mikko Rajamaki lost 6-3, 6-1 to Germain Bahri, and Trey Crysel was beaten 6-4, 6-2 by Timothy Tan.

“We had too many opportunities that we let get away,” head coach Scott Shankles said. “San Francisco played well, but we need to learn how to close out sets and matches against these tough opponents. We are good enough, but we just need to believe it.”

In doubles, Laitinen and Feucht beat Saraiva and Skajaa 8-6, but the Cards would lose 8-4 and 8-3, respectively, at lines two and three.

Lamar will continue its nine match road swing with matches vs. Troy and Southern Miss next week.
