COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -
The Lamar University men's tennis team got back to the .500 mark with a pair of victories late Saturday.
The Cardinals (5-5) opened the day with a 4-3 win over Weber State before posting a 7-0 victory over Northern Colorado. Both matches were played at the Air Force Academy.
Against Weber State (4-8), Lamar was down 3-1 before pulling out victories at fourth, fifth and sixth singles spots. Marton Horvath posted a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Peter Ramstromer Pello at No. 4 singles, Dusan Savkovic held on for a 7-6 (5), 3-6, 7-6 (5) win over Dave Hintze at No. 5 singles and Diego Snyder edged Oliver Good 7-6 (5), 7-5 at No. 6 singles.
Carlos Valdenebro got Lamar's first point with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Caio Poitena at third singles.
"I'm so proud of the guys for coming back to win against a tough Weber State team," Lamar coach Scott Shankles said. "Our backs were against the wall, but Marton, Diego and Dusan really stepped up when we needed it."
Following that match, the Cardinals used their momentum to steamroll Northern Colorado (3-8).
"After a long match earlier in the day, we kept our focus and played solid tennis to beat Northern Colorado," Shankles said.
Lamar returns to action at 10 a.m. Thursday with a non-conference match at Baylor.
