BEAUMONT - Head coach Scott Shankles thought his Lamar men's tennis team had its chances on Saturday afternoon, but unfortunately the squad couldn't cash in as the Cardinals fell 4-1 to Florida A&M at Thompson Family Tennis Center.
"Florida A&M is a pretty good team and they got us last year too," Shankles said. "They're pretty aggressive, and we didn't take advantage of being up one doubles point and one singles point. We had a few players play well, but overall it's disappointing."
Due to an injury suffered by a FAMU player, the Rattlers had to forfeit No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles prior to the start of play.
After Mikko Rajamaki and Bruno Snyder lost 8-3 to Admire Mushonga and Chidi Gabriel at No. 2, Rob Lee and Steven McMullan narrowly missed securing the doubles point, falling in a tight 9-8 (7-3) decision to Takura Happy and Salif Kante at the top spot.
Lee and McMullan would also fall in singles with Lee dropping a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Kante at line one and McMullan losing 6-4, 6-2 to Mushonga at line four.
Carl-Philip Lindqvist was defeated in 7-6, 6-2 fashion by Gabriel at the second spot.
Both Snyder and Rajamaki had their respective matches called off due to the match being secured by the Rattlers.
Lamar (1-9) will return to action on Sunday against Radford. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
