ARLINGTON, Texas - The Lamar University men's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to Air Force in a non-conference match played at UT Arlington on Friday.

The difference came down to a trio of three-set singles matches, with Air Force (10-10) winning two of the three to seal the win.

Lamar's Marton Horvath won one of those three-set matches, rallying for a 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 win over Alex Lineberry at No. 3 singles. However, the Falcons took the other two marathon matches with Lance Wilhelm defeating Rob Lee 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 at No. 1 singles and Alex Grubbs defeating Denis Ermilov 3-6, 7-6 (8), 6-0 at No. 2 singles.

"Overall, we played much better," Lamar coach Scott Shankles said. "However, we are not closing out opportunities when needed. Today we had match points, break points, and game points that slipped by. If we are going to get off the schneid, we need to finish off these opportunities."

Carlos Valdenebro won at No. 4 singles for Lamar, while Bruno Snyder won at No. 5 singles.

Air Force won the doubles competition by taking two of the three matches. Lee and Horvath won at No. 1 doubles for the Cardinals (6-10).

The Cardinals are at Texas-Pan American for a Southland Conference match at 10 a.m. Sunday.
