CORPUS CHRISTI - The Lamar men's tennis team closed out its regular season on Thursday evening with a 6-0 loss at No. 58 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

The Islanders, now winners of the Southland Conference in each of the past six seasons, earned the top seed in next week's conference tournament, which will take place at Beaumont Municipal Tennis Center from April 27-28. Despite having one match left to play, they clinched the title thanks to a 4-0 conference mark and an overall record of 14-7.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals, who clinched a spot in the tournament with a win over Texas-Pan American last week, finished at 2-3 in SLC play to place fourth in the league, ending the regular season with a 4-16 record.

Due to storms in the area, the teams did not play a doubles round, and Matt Westmoreland secured the match's first point for TAMUCC with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Steven McMullan at No. 3. Javier Pujol followed up by handing Trey Crysel a 6-0, 6-0 decision at line five.

Mikko Rajamaki lost 6-4, 6-3 to Ricardo Mayagoitia in the fourth spot to secure the match for the Islanders.

In other singles action, Rob Lee fell 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 to Peter Nagy, who is ranked No. 102 in the country, and Carl-Philip Lindqvist lost 6-2, 6-4 at the second spot to Gergo Weidinger.

Pietro Jordao won by default at No. 6 to account for the match's final score.

The two sides will face off once more in the opening round of the Southland Tournament on April 27.
