BEAUMONT - Steven McMullan very nearly picked up his first victory at No. 3 singles this season during Saturday's Southland Conference Tournament, but ultimately his match was called off as the rest of the Lamar men's tennis team wasn't as successful, falling 4-0 to top seeded Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at Beaumont Municipal Tennis Center.
McMullan, a freshman out of Houston, took home a 6-3 win in the opening set over Ricardo Mayagoitia and held a 5-1 lead in the second before the match was called off.
In other singles action, Matt Westmoreland picked up a pair of 6-0 wins over Carl-Philip Lindqvist at the second spot, and Pietro Jordao handed Trey Crysel a 6-2, 6-1 decision at No. 5.
The other singles point for the Islanders came at No. 6, where Lamar did not compete.
In doubles, the team of Andrew Maingot and Guillaume Rauseo beat Lindqvist and Mikko Rajamaki 8-3 to secure the point.
With the loss, Lamar finished the season 4-17. The Islanders improved to 16-7 and will face New Orleans in Sunday's championship, which is slated to begin at 11 a.m.
