Oct. 20, 2012
FT. WORTH, Texas - Mikko Rajamaki picked up a win to start things off for the Lamar men's tennis team on Saturday, but the rest of the day didn't go as planned as the Cardinals wound down play on their first day of competition at the ITA Texas Regional at Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. Rajamaki won 6-3, 6-3 over UT Arlington's Sebastian Gomez in the first round of play, but fell 6-0, 6-3 to Texas' Lloyd Glasspool later in the day. "It wasn't a good day for us, but Mikko's play was the bright spot," head coach Scott Shankles said. "He played well, but we started off slow. We'll look to start off better tomorrow." In other singles play, Ben Chen, also of Texas, defeated Carl-Philip Lindqvist 6-0, 6-4, and Bruno Snyder fell 7-5, 6-2 to Rice's Jonathan Chang. Rob Lee lost 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 to Adam Gustafson of Rice. In doubles, the Texas duo of Jacoby Lewis and Sudanwa Sitaram defeated Lee and Bruno Snyder 8-4. Martin Ayala and Diogo Alves Casa of UTSA won 8-3 over Rajamaki and Lindqvist. #LUTennis
