Laitinen, who is going through his first fall season with the Cardinals after arriving on campus last year, earned his berth into the semis by handing Rice's Adam Gustafsson a slim 6-3, 2-6, 10-8 defeat. However, the  Finland native was on the receiving end of another tight match in the semifinal, falling 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4) to TCU's Rodolfo Bustamante.
