Cards finish second day at ITA Regional

WACO - Carl-Philip Lindqvist and Juuso Laitinen had standout days in singles and the tandem of Michael Feucht and Jeandre Hoogenboezem followed suit in doubles as the Lamar men's tennis team completed the second day of play at the ITA Texas Regional at Hurd Tennis Center on the campus of Baylor.

Laitinen, who is going through his first fall season with the Cardinals after arriving on campus last year, earned his berth into the semis by handing Rice's Adam Gustafsson a slim 6-3, 2-6, 10-8 defeat. However, the  Finland native was on the receiving end of another tight match in the semifinal, falling 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4) to TCU's Rodolfo Bustamante.

Lindqvist, who reached the semis after Texas A&M's Harrison Adams withdrew, also dropped a close match, losing 7-6 (6), 6-4 to Zach Yablon of Rice.

In other singles action, Hoogenboezem had one of the closest matches of the day, falling 7-6 (2), 5-7, 13-11 to Daniel Echeverry of UT Arlington. Mikko Rajamaki lost 6-2, 6-3 to SMU's Nate Lammons, and Nikita Lis fell in a 6-0, 7-6 decision to Bustamante. Trey Crysel lost 6-0, 6-0 to David Holiner of Texas.

Feucht and Hoogenboezem started doubles play in style, handing Texas Tech's Carlos DiLaura and Francisco Zambon an 8-3 loss. The duo kept rolling with an 8-7 (4) decision to UTA's Daniel Armengol and Sebastian Erimicioiu in the third round before falling 8-2 to TCU's Nick Chappell and Will Stein in the consolation final.

Crysel and Lindqvist also played a close third round match, falling 8-7 (6) to Michael Morris and Nicklas Wingord of Abilene Christian.

Elsewhere, Lis and Steven McMullan were beat by Chappell and Stein as well, and the team of Laitinen and Rajamaki lost to Texas' Adrien Berkowicz and Sudanwa Sitaram. Both matches were decided in 8-5 fashion.
