The Lamar men's tennis doubles team of Carlos Valdenebro and Dusan Savkovic won their first-round match at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association South Central Regionals on Friday.
Savkovic and Valdenebro defeated Nicolas Moreno and Yauheni Yakauleu of UT Arlington by an 8-5 score before falling to Paul Chappell and J.T. Sundling of TCU by an 8-5 score.
Valdenebro andSavkovic will play in Saturday's consolation bracket as will the Lamar tandem of Marton Horvath and Rob Lee, who lost an 8-4 decision to Gonalo Escobar and Gabriel Wanderley of TCU.
In singles action, Horvath won his consolation match over Abdelhamid Riani by a 6-4, 6-2 score after falling to Yakauleu 6-2, 6-3 in the opening round.
In other singles action, Lee fell to Aurelien Tave 6-4, 6-3, Gabriel Aboitiz dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision to ninth-seeded Jeremy Efferding, Valdenebro fell to Gaston Cuadranti 6-4, 6-4; and Savkovic suffered a 6-2, 6-1 loss to Isamu Tachibana.
"We played much better in doubles than we did in singles," Lamar coach Scott Shankles said. "I was very proud of their energy and decision making. We didn't take advantage of our opportunities in singles. I feel all five will do better in their consolation matches."
The event runs through Monday on the campus of Texas A&M.
