COLLEGE STATION, Texas -
Lamar University's Rob Lee advanced to the consolation semifinals of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association South Central Regionals at Texas A&M on Saturday.
Lee opened the day with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Blake Wiggins of TCU before rallying for a 4-6, 7-6 (6), 11-9 win over Leif Berger of Rice in the consolation quarterfinals
"Rob beat a very tough TCU player by playing very smart," Lamar coach Scott Shankles said. "Then he followed it up by hanging in against Berger by saving four match points to win the third set 10-point tiebreaker."
Lee will meet Joe Hattrup of SMU in the semifinals at 9 a.m. Sunday. The consolation finals match is set for noon Sunday.
"I look for Rob to continue playing at a high level," Shankles said.
In other matches involving Lamar players Saturday, Carlos Valdenebro defeated Rice's Andy Wang 6-4, 6-7 (6), 10-8 before falling to Chris Camillone of Texas 6-1, 6-3.
