The Lamar University men's tennis team took part in the Texas Fall Invitational, and for the second straight week, sophomore Maciej Bogusz advanced to the finals of the consolation bracket.
Bogusz made prolonged stay in consolation bracket, making it to the finals before withdrawing due to injury. In his journey to the finals he defeated Jacob Walley of St. Edwards 4-6, 6-4, 10-7, Kenton Vinhuzen of St. Edwards 6-3, 6-1 and Ty Lunn of UTSA 6-2, 6-0.
Filip Kanczula was the only Cardinal to win a match in the opening round. As he defeated Tyler Lyon of St. Edwards 6-0, 6-1 before being knocked out by John Nallon of Texas A&M 5-7, 6-2, 10-7.
Also competing in the consolation bracket were Devin Harley, Tyler Cobb, Mario Jancic, Brett
Sticker and Kody Duplechin. Harley was defeated by Adam Becker of UTSA 6-0, 6-1; Cobb was defeated by Mike Beatty TAMU 6-1, 6-1, while Jancic defeated Tommy Collins of St. Edwards 6-1, 6-0 before being knocked out by Justin Raiti of St. Edwards 3-6, 6-3, 10-4.
The doubles tandem of Duplechin and Harley made it to the consolation finals were they lost to Alberto Agis and Diego Mattar 8-1 of UT-Arlington. On their way to the finals they defeated Teddy Diblasi of Texas Tech and teammate Jancic who withdrew. They also got past Justin Raiti and Walter Valerazo of St. Ed's. Cobb and Sticker also advanced to semifinals of the consolation bracket, before being dismissed by Agis and Mattar 8-3.
Kanczula and Bogusz lost in the opening round of the doubles bracket, falling to Jonah Kane-West and Milan Mihailovic of Texas 8-4. Also falling in the opening round were Cobb and Sticker who lost to Bernhard Deussener and Jon Weisgand of UT while Jancic and Diblasi fell at the hands of Mike Beatty and Stephen Shields of Texas A&M 8-5.
