BEAUMONT, Texas - Lamar University men's tennis player Richard Filkuka was named the Southland Conference Player of the Week for the period ending Jan. 18, 2010.

Filkuka bounced back for a three-set win (1-6, 6-1, 7-5) over Anton Krutkin to power the Cardinals to a 6-1 season-opening victory over Alcorn State.

Filkuka, a senior from the Czech Republic, also teamed with Diego Snyder for a victory at third doubles for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals return to action at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rice before hosting Centenary College at 1 p.m. Sunday.
