BEAUMONT - After narrow losses in three of the past four matches, the Lamar men's tennis team will be looking to breakthrough this weekend as it plays host to Southern Mississippi and Prairie View A&M.
The Cardinals have picked up five singles victories this week in matches vs. Youngstown State and Radford. Carl-Philip Lindqvist led the way with two wins, and Steven McMullan, Mikko Rajamaki and Bruno Snyder each picked up a single win.
Saturday will mark the third meeting between Lamar and Southern Miss since 2011, with the Eagles winning each of the previous two in 5-2 fashion. Rob Lee and Bruno Snyder were the highlights in last season's meeting, with Lee winning at No. 2 and Snyder at No. 5.
On Sunday, LU will be looking to continue its success vs. Prairie View as the Cards carry a 9-1 series record vs. the Panthers. The two sides last met at Thompson Family Tennis Center in 2011 with the Cards taking home a 6-1 victory. Lee was the only current player to participate in the match, posting a dominating win at No. 2 singles and combining with current LU assistant Marton Horvath for a victory at No. 2 doubles.
Lamar is 1-11 this season. Southern Miss is 10-5, and PVAMU is 3-2.
First serve on both days is set for 10:00 a.m.
