The Lamar University men's tennis team returns to the road for a pair of matches this week, taking on No. 39 Texas Tech and New Mexico State on Friday and Saturday at the McLeod Tennis Center in Lubbock, Texas.
Winners of three straight, the Cardinals enter the weekend at 8-8 on the year, looking to pick up a pair of road victories. Lamar will take on the Red Raiders on Friday at 2 p.m. and wrap up the week with a 12 p.m. match against the Aggies on Saturday.
Lamar is led by Filip Kanczula who has posted a 10-4 record on the year, posting a 9-4 record at No. 1 singles. Mario Janjic has also been solid for the Cards, posting a 9-5 season record, going 9-4 at No. 2 singles. In doubles play the Cardinals have been led by the tandem of Janjic and David Wanja who have posted a 5-1 record.
This will be the seventh meeting between the Lamar Cardinals and Red Raiders, with the series tied at three all. Tech swept Lamar last season 7-0 in Lubbock.
Texas Tech enters the match with a 10-7 record on the year, having dropped their last two matches to Texas A&M and the University of Texas. New Mexico State is 7-8 on the season, winning their last two matches over Western New Mexico and Eastern Washington.
