The Lamar University men's tennis team will play their final road match of the regular season on Friday, taking on the No. 38 ranked Islanders of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in Corpus Christi at
The Cardinal enter the match with an 8-10 overall record and a 3-1 record in Southland Conference play. The Islanders are unbeaten in SLC play at 5-0 and are 12-5 on the season.
The Cards are led by No. 1 singles player Filip Kanczula, who has posted a 11-4 record this season, while Mario Janjic has a 10-5 record at No. 2 singles. Lamar is coming off of a pair of non-conference losses to Texas Tech and New Mexico State in Lubbock, Texas last weekend.
Corpus Christi is led by Andrey Kumantsov who is 12-1 at No. 1 singles, Raul Morant-Rivas who is 10-5 on the year, playing predominately at No. 2 singles and Jose Zunino who has posted a 10-4 season record, playing at four, five and six. The Islanders are coming off a 4-2 loss at No. 13 Texas on Wednesday.
After Friday's match with the Islanders, the Cards will wrap up the regular season on Sunday when they play host to second place UT-Arlington on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Cardinal Courts.
Admission to all home matches is free and door prizes will be available to all fans in attendance. A tennis clinic held by women's head coach David Wong and Men's coach Aldrin Campos will be up for grabs, a "hit the target" contest for prizes during the doubles/singles intermission and free food and drinks are available at all home matches.
