ARLINGTON, Texas - The Lamar University men's and women's tennis teams will open the first round of the Southland Conference Tennis Tournament Friday afternoon at the UTA Tennis Center in Arlington Texas.

The Lady Cardinals enter the tournament with the No. 3 seed, and will take on Louisiana-Monroe at 2 p.m. Lamar knocked off the Lady Indians 6-1 earlier in the season in Monroe.

The Lady Cardinals enter the tournament with a 10-9 season record, led by Southland Conference Player of the Year Andrea Martinez who posted a 9-1 SLC record at No. 1 and went 10-0 in doubles play with partner Tara Shelander at No. 1 doubles. Newcomer of the Year Pamela Martinez has also been a solid contributor for the Lady Cards, posting a 7-3 record in SLC play.

The Cardinal men get things started with a 4:30 showdown with No. 3 seed UT-Arlington. The Cardinal men are led by Newcomer of the Year Filip Kanczula, who posted a 4-2 mark in league play.

Championship action is set to conclude on Sunday, April 30 with the women's title match set for 12 p.m. followed by the men's at 3 p.m. Admission is free to all tennis matches.
