FRISCO – Sophomore Carl-Philip Lindqvist helped lead the Lamar men’s tennis program to its best season in over a quarter-century this spring, but his ability off the court was also impressive as the Falkenberg, Sweden, native was named Academic All-Southland by the conference office on Thursday.
Lindqvist, who was named to the second team, was the only player with a perfect 4.0 grade point average to earn a spot on either squad. He is currently majoring in marketing.
On the court, he spent much of his time at No. 4 singles, going 7-16 on the year, and helped the Cards to a first-ever runner-up finish at the modern Southland Conference Tournament. One of his biggest highlights of the season was undoubtedly at UTSA, as he picked up a straight-sets victory and helped LU claim a first-ever win over the former conference heavyweight Roadrunners.
This is the third consecutive season that a Cardinal has been named academic all-conference. Current assistant coach Rob Lee took home the designation last season, and Carlos Valdenebro was honored as such in 2012.
