BEAUMONT – Lamar University played host to one of the premier tennis events in Texas this weekend as the 94th Beaumont Labor Day Tennis Tournament was held at the Thompson Family Tennis Center on campus.

The event, which is the longest-running tournament in Texas, was ultimately won by former University of Texas All-American Dimitar Kutrovsky. The former Longhorn went up against a number of current and former Cardinal players, culminating with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over former standout Rob Lee in the semifinals.

Current Cards Juuso Laitinen and Mikko Rajamaki made it to the finals of the doubles tournament, falling victim in 8-6 fashion to Pieotra Banas and Neil Schneider. The duo of Jeandre Hoogenboezem and Michael Feucht fell in the semis.

Teammates Nikita Lis, Carl-Philip Lindqvist, and Trey Crysel as well as graduate assistant Marton Horvath all participated in the event.

The tournament was run by the Southeast Texas Tennis Association and sponsored by Overtime, Reaund Morgan & Quinn and Global Supply.
