BEAUMONT - After opening the 2012 fall season last week at the TJC Quad Match, the Lamar men's tennis program will be sending the whole squad to Hattiesburg, Miss., on Friday to begin play at the Southern Miss Invite.

"Last week was really an opportunity for some of our young guys to get their feet wet," head coach Scott Shankles said. "It was set up in a similar way to the format that we'll play in the spring. It was a great introduction to fall tennis for my two sophomores and my two freshmen, and it will help lead us into the tournament this week."

The Cardinals will play a loaded schedule over the course of the three-day event, and it will feature matches against players from Southern Miss, Troy, Stetson, Nicholls, New Orleans and South Alabama.

"It's a very good tournament to go to in that every team is very solid," Shankles said. "They are all good programs and a few teams were in-and-out of the national rankings last year. It's going to be some tough competition, and it's going to give us a great idea of where we are now, and where we need to go in the spring."

Rob Lee, who did not make the trek to Tyler last week, will join sophomores Mikko Rajamaki and Bruno Snyder as well as freshmen Carl-Philip Lindqvist and Steven McMullan.

The Cardinals will begin play on Friday with matches against Southern Miss at 10:30 a.m.
