BEAUMONT – All eight members of the Lamar men’s tennis team will look to represent the school well this weekend as the team sets out for the ITA Texas Regional on the campus of Baylor in Waco.

The event, which will feature nearly 100 players from all over the state, is one of the biggest annual events on the Lamar schedule. The Cardinals are coming off an impressive showing earlier this month at the Ron Wesbrooks Invitational, which featured LU taking home four of the event’s six flight championships.

Freshmen Michael Feucht and Jeandre Hoogenboezem had strong showings at the event as each took home both a singles and doubles title. Fellow newcomer Juuso Laitinen also had a strong weekend, but fell just short of winning his flight, and it was the same for his fellow countryman Mikko Rajamaki as they both lost in three sets.

Among the field at the ITA Regional will be conference foes Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Abilene Christian and Incarnate Word. The field is also highlighted by major conference opponents in Baylor, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech. Rice, SMU, UT Arlington, UTPA and UTSA round out the participants.

Play will begin on Saturday at 8 a.m. at the Hurd Tennis Center and run through Tuesday.
