BEAUMONT – The Lamar men’s tennis team will cap its 2013 fall campaign this weekend as the quartet of Michael Feucht, Jeandre Hoogenboezem, Juuso Laitinen and Mikko Rajamaki sets out for the Texas Invitational at Penick-Allison Tennis Complex.

“This team’s gotten off to a good start this year, and certainly better than they have in the past,” head coach Scott Shankles explained. “I think the guys have a good feel for this weekend, especially with the level of competition that they saw at last week’s regional. Hopefully, we’ll be able to finish strong and carry that momentum into the spring.”

Feucht and Hoogenboezem are looking to put a cap on an impressive first semester in Beaumont. Feucht, a native of Germany, took home the title in the top flight at the Ron Wesbrooks Invitational and picked up a singles victory at last week’s ITA Regional. Hoogenboezem, a freshman out of South Africa, took home a Wesbrooks singles crown as well.

Together, the two combined to win the top doubles title at the Wesbrooks invite and advanced to the consolation final at the ITA Regional.

Laitinen and Rajamaki, both of Finland, are also aiming to impress. Laitinen, competing in his first fall season since joining the Lamar squad last year, advanced to the consolation semifinals last week.

Play at the Texas Invitational is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. on Friday.
