Lamar Track Takes Five Titles at Purple Tiger Invitational

BATON ROUGE, La. - - The Lamar University men's and women's track teams opened the 2007 indoor season Saturday at the Purple Tiger Indoor Track and Field Classic at the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse, hosted by LSU in Baton Rouge, La., with the Cardinals capturing five first place finishes

The Lady Cardinals took first and second place in the distance medley relay, as Clerc Koenck, Secret Thomas, Andrea Smith and Stacey Monteau teamed up to post a 12:29.51 performance for first place while Amanda King, Porshe Williams, Merci Bungei and Renee Graham ran a 12:39.01 for second.

Koenck picked up another first place finish for the Lady Cardinals, running a 9:45.99 in the 3,000 meter run. Graham and King followed in second and third place respectively, posting times of 9:56.55 and 9:59.21 while Mary Johnson finished in 10th place in a time of 11:22.68.

Rachel Kingsford took the title in the one mile championship with a time of 5:18.13, with Bungei grabbing a fourth place finish in the mile with a time of 5:36.03.

Brittany Pollard placed third in the 400 meter dash with a 1:01.71 performance, while Alex Mayfield and Kayla LeBlanc finished in fifth and ninth place with times of 1:02.55 and 1:04.87 respectively. Jessika Johnson and Adrianne Johnson finished in seventh and eighth place in the 60-meter hurdles with times of 9.05 and 9.02, while Dominique Jenkins finished in eighth place in the 200 meter dash in a time of 26.24.

The Lamar `A' team in the 4 x 400 meter dash, consisting of Pollard, Jessika Johnson, Mayfield and Adrianne Johnson finished in sixth place with a 4:01.45 performance.
 

 

On the men's side the Cards took first and second place in the distance medley relay as Frank Bwambale, Andy Haggquist, Danny Shaw and Francis Kasagule teamed up to run a 10:05.73, while Aaron Brannen, Obie Iredia, Ewan Simpson and Hamish Meacham ran a 10:40.03.

The men's other title was captured by Kasagule in the 3,000 meter run, as he ran an 8:13.93. Shaw and Bwambale came in fourth and fifth place with times of 8:29.95 and 8:33.80 respectively, while Brannen finished in 10th with a time of 8:54.56.

JaMarkus Tolbert grabbed a third place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 46-06.75; Michael Gauthier placed 12th in the 60-meter dash in a time of 7.01 and Jordan Lewis finished in 13th place in the 200-meter dash, turning in a 23.98 performance.

The Cardinal track teams will be in action again on Friday when they head to the Leonard Hilton Invitational, hosted by the University of Houston.
