Wade wins second straight race

HOUSTON – Joe Wade picked right back up where he left off last week, taking home a second consecutive mile run title as the Lamar track teams closed out the Howie Ryan Invitational & Multi’s at Yeoman Field House on the campus of the University of Houston. Just a week after winning the same event at the McNeese Invitational, the Isle of Wight, England, native finished the race in 4:10.28 to become the second event winner at UH this week, joining fellow distance runner Ryan Creech, who won the 5,000 meter title a day ago. Michael Kershaw also impressed in the event, finishing third among collegiate competitors and fourth overall at 4:18.94, and Becky Gough ended eighth with a time of 5:07.48. Jonathan Reece was the top men’s field athlete of the day, putting up a mark of 6 feet, 8.75 inches in the high jump to finish second. Beatrice Douglas recorded a pair of fifth place showings, topping five feet, three inches in the high jump, and 18 feet, three inches in the long jump, a mark that was equaled by fellow Cardinal Erin Brown. Sam Stabler and Sam Bradley each picked up a top 10, going seventh and eighth in the 3,000 meter run with times of 8:40.06 and 8:42.04, respectively. Saschelle Slaughter ended eighth in the 400 meter dash, completing the race in 57.90 seconds. Ashley Idunoba ran the 60 meter dash in 7.66 seconds, the ninth-best time recorded by a collegiate performer in the event.
After finishing the first day fifth in the heptathlon, Nick Fyffe finished 10th with a total of 3,984 points after ending fifth in the 1,000 meter run with a time of 3:03.24 and eighth in 60 meter hurdles with a mark of 9.37. Track season will continue next week at the Jeff Davis Invitational in Lake Charles. #GoCards |
