Kasagule sets new SLC record in the 3,000 meter run

BOSTON, Mass. - Lamar University freshman Francis Kasagule had a solid showing at the Terrier Invitation Saturday morning, running to a fifth place finish in the men's 3,000 meter run in a time of 7:57.91. The time is an NCAA provisional qualifying mark and is a new Southland Conference record for the 3,000 meter run. Previously, the fastest time in SLC history was 8:07.44 by William Wilkinson of Louisiana-Lafayette in 1982. His time also breaks the Lamar school record, which he set earlier this season. In addition to his strong start to the indoor track season, which has seen Kasagule break a Lamar record in every meet in which he has participated, he also earned cross country All-Americans honors in the fall. Kasagule and the rest of the Lamar men's and women's track teams will be in action again next weekend when the run at the Houston Invitational at the University of Houston.
