Lamar men place eighth at Victor Lopez Classic

HOUSTON - The Lamar men's track team placed eighth at the Victor Lopez Classic at Rice University over the weekend. Tom Wade led Lamar by winning the 5,500 meters, while Joe Wade won the 1,500 meters. Lamar took the top two spots in the men's 5,000 meters, as Tom Wade won the event in 14 minutes, 29.56 seconds, while teammate Matt Johnsen was second in 14:29.88, Lamar's Alex DeLa Garza placed 12th in 15:06.54, with teammate Anthony Pequeno 14th in 15:08.91. Wade won the 1,500 meters in 3:47.92. Chris Smith took third in the men's 800 meters in 1:51.21. Jamal Nash was seventh in the men's 100-meter hurdles in 14.71 seconds. Nash was 12th in the 400 hurdles in 56.00 seconds. Lamar's Ryan Kelly was 12 in the men's 10,000 meters in 34:26.72. The Lamar quartet of Josh Raglon, Nash, Ronnie Whitty and Smith took eighth in the men's 4x400 relay in 3:17.68. As a team, Lamar finished with 24 points. Notre Dame led the 22-team field with 70 points. The Cardinals are at the Texas Relays from Wednesday through Sunday in Austin. LAMAR
