AUSTIN - The Lamar men's and women's track teams saw their Texas Relays competition come to an end on Friday afternoon at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas.

Ashley Idunoba led the way for the squad, competing in the 100 meter dash and finishing 28th in 11.79 seconds, which led all Southland participants. Saschelle Slaughter also ran in the race, ending 79th at 12.42.

"It was nice to run in the fast heat," Idunoba said. "I felt like I ran pretty well, and I did better today than last week at Rice. I'm just looking forward to getting back out there next week."

Zach Hicks and Trey Finnex also competed in the 100, and Hicks posted a 40th place finish at 10.65, and Finnex was 54th at 10.87.

Wesley Williams was the only other athlete to compete individually on Friday, running the 110 meter hurdles in 16.20 to place 41st.

On Thursday night, Sam Bradley ran in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, ending 19th at 9:31.06.

"It was an emotional return to the track for me," Bradley said following the race. "It was great to get back after some health issues recently. I didn't do as well as I would've liked, but I'm hoping to improve going forward."

Four Cardinal teams competed in the relays with the men's 4x100 squad of Williams, Hicks, Finnex and Jonathan Edwards placing 26th at 42.11.

The women's 4x100 team did not finish.

In the 4x400, TaMar Hicks teamed with Zach Hicks, Ronnie Whitty and Treyvon Davis to finish 22nd at 3:17.10 and on the women's side, the quartet of Sarah Shim, Shakevia Fleeks, Elzbieta Gawron and Slaughter came in 39th at 3:52.07.

The Cardinals will return to the track on April 6 at the Sam Houston Invitational.
